In response to the devastating aftermath of Typhoon Yagi, India has initiated ‘Operation Sadbhav’ to extend humanitarian assistance to Myanmar, Laos, and Vietnam.
The External Affairs Ministry, in a statement on Sunday, confirmed that India is dispatching critical relief supplies to support these Southeast Asian nations as they recover from the destruction caused by one of the most powerful storms in Asia this year.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar announced on social media platform X that India is sending a total of 55 tonnes of aid, which includes dry rations, clothing, medicines, and essential supplies.
The Indian Navy and Air Force are leading the relief mission.
The naval ship INS Satpura has already set sail for Myanmar, carrying 10 tonnes of relief supplies.
This aid package consists of essential items like food, clothing, and medical supplies to assist the flood-stricken population.
In addition, a C-130J transport aircraft from the Indian Air Force is delivering 35 tonnes of relief materials to Vietnam.
This shipment includes water purification equipment, solar lanterns, blankets, kitchen utensils, and other vital items to aid those displaced by the disaster.
India has dispatched another 10 tonnes of aid to Laos, including hygiene kits, mosquito nets, sleeping bags, and water purification units.
Jaishankar further emphasized India’s commitment to assisting its neighbors in times of crisis, stating, “India launches #OperationSadbhav. Demonstrating our solidarity with the people affected by Typhoon Yagi, India is dispatching aid to Myanmar, Vietnam and Laos.”

Navy Mobilizes Rapid Aid For Myanmar Disaster Relief
The Indian Navy, particularly the Eastern Naval Command, has swiftly mobilized its resources to provide humanitarian aid and disaster relief.
Naval units worked overnight to load essential supplies onto the INS Satpura at Visakhapatnam, which will be deployed for relief operations in Yangon, Myanmar.
Navy spokesperson Commander Vivek Madhwal highlighted the rapid response, noting the Navy’s capacity to act swiftly in the face of regional crises, despite limited preparation time.
Typhoon Yagi, which originated in the South China Sea, wreaked havoc across Southeast Asia, leading to widespread flooding and substantial loss of life.
Vietnam has reported over 170 fatalities, while Myanmar has confirmed around 40 deaths, with many more missing. The storm’s devastation has severely impacted various regions in Laos.
India’s timely intervention through Operation Sadbhav is likely to provide much-needed relief to the affected countries as they begin the process of rebuilding their communities.
