In a decisive move to counter cross-border influence and misinformation, the Indian government on Thursday issued a sweeping ban on all Pakistan-origin content across OTT platforms, streaming services, and digital intermediaries.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting directed these platforms to immediately discontinue access to films, web series, songs, podcasts, and other digital media sourced from Pakistan.
This action follows the recent terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam allegedly sponsored by Islamabad—that claimed the lives of 26 people, including Indian tourists and one Nepali national.
The advisory cited repeated terrorist incidents linked to Pakistani state and non-state actors as the rationale for the move.
“In the interest of national security,” the Ministry stated, “All streaming and digital media platforms operating in India must remove content originating from Pakistan with immediate effect.”
Following the Pahalgam massacre, Indian armed forces further launched ‘Operation Sindoor,’ a non-escalatory but focused military response.

They targeted and destroyed nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir using precision-guided missiles.
Notably, Indian forces avoided hitting Pakistani military installations, reflecting strategic restraint.
Diplomatic ties between India and Pakistan have deteriorated sharply.
In an unprecedented move, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960, calling for its reinstatement only if Pakistan undertakes ‘verifiable and irreversible’ measures to end support for terrorism.
India also halted cross-border trade, revoked visas for all Pakistani nationals, and ordered the closure of the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari.
Additionally, New Delhi expelled Pakistan’s military advisors from its High Commission and withdrew Indian military staff from Islamabad.
The Ministry’s latest advisory underscores India’s intent to tighten information controls further heightened security threats.
It follows recent warnings against real-time reporting of military operations and reflects the government’s broader effort to insulate the nation from propaganda and external destabilisation.
