Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said the proposed India–European Union Free Trade Agreement underlines the spirit of an ambitious and self-reliant India, positioning the country as a growing centre of global economic attention.
Addressing the media at the start of the Budget Session of Parliament, the Prime Minister said India has emerged as both a ‘beacon of hope’ and a ‘centre of attraction’ in the first quarter of the 21st century.
He added that increasing global engagement reflects confidence in India’s democratic values and economic strength.
PM Modi described the India–EU trade pact as an opportunity-rich agreement for Indian youth, farmers, manufacturers and service-sector professionals.
He expressed confidence that the Indian industry would leverage access to European markets to expand its global footprint.
Urging manufacturers to prioritise excellence, he said the agreement should not be viewed merely through the lens of lower tariffs.
Instead, he stressed the need to compete on quality to build long-term trust across the EU’s 27 member states, calling it a move with lasting economic impact.
Reform Agenda Aligned with Viksit Bharat 2047
The Prime Minister said the Budget Session marks a key phase in India’s 25-year journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047.
He reiterated that the government has embraced a ‘Reform Express’ focused on reform, performance and transformation, while resolving long-pending issues through predictable and sustainable solutions.
Referring to the President’s address, PM Modi said it reflected the aspirations of 140 crore Indians and expressed hope that Parliament would contribute constructively to national progress.
He also highlighted Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s ninth consecutive Budget presentation as a proud parliamentary milestone, adding that governance would remain human-centric even as technology adoption accelerates.
Concluding, the Prime Minister said India is moving forward through timely, solution-oriented decisions, with democracy and demography continuing to inspire global confidence.
