India marked its 76th Republic Day on January 26, 2025, with a grand celebration at Kartavya Path (formerly Rajpath) in New Delhi. President Droupadi Murmu presided over the event, which showcased the country’s unity, diversity, and strength. The Chief Guest for this year’s ceremony was His Excellency Emmanuel Macron, President of France, emphasizing the strong ties between India and France.

The celebrations began with President Murmu hoisting the National Flag, followed by the National Anthem and a 21-gun salute. The salute was performed using indigenous 105 mm Indian field guns, reflecting the nation’s commitment to self-reliance in defense manufacturing.

Showcasing India’s Military Might

The Republic Day parade commenced with a spectacular display of India’s military strength. The Indian Army’s mechanized columns included advanced tanks such as the Arjun Mk-1A and the indigenous Light Combat Vehicles. The Navy and Air Force also participated, with the Navy’s tableau highlighting the indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant. Fighter jets, including the Rafale and Sukhoi-30 MKI, performed breathtaking aerial maneuvers, culminating in a synchronized flypast featuring the Tricolor formation.

This year’s parade featured 25 tableaux representing various states, Union Territories, and ministries, each showcasing the rich cultural and historical heritage of India. Highlights included:

  • Uttar Pradesh’s tableau depicting the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
  • Kerala’s vibrant presentation of the traditional Theyyam dance.
  • A tribute to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose from the Ministry of Culture.

The tableaux captivated the audience, emphasizing the theme of “Unity in Diversity.”

Performance By School Children And Cultural Troupes

School children performed meticulously choreographed dances, celebrating themes of national integration, environmental conservation, and technological progress. Folk artists from different states added a colorful dimension to the cultural segment with their energetic performances.

The event also included the presentation of the prestigious Gallantry Awards. Brave soldiers and officers were honored for their extraordinary valor and dedication to the nation. The Ashok Chakra, the highest peacetime gallantry award, was conferred posthumously on a soldier who displayed exemplary courage in the face of adversity.

Closing With A Grand Flypast

The grand finale of the parade featured a breathtaking flypast by the Indian Air Force. Over 50 aircraft participated, with formations such as the “Trishul” and “Vinaash.” The event concluded with the Sukhoi fighter jets creating a spectacular vertical split, leaving trails of the national colors in the sky.

Nationwide Celebrations

Republic Day celebrations extended beyond Delhi, with cultural programs, flag-hoisting ceremonies, and patriotic events held across the country. Citizens participated enthusiastically, reflecting their love and pride for the nation.

Republic Day 2025 served as a poignant reminder of India’s journey as a sovereign, democratic republic and its commitment to progress, unity, and self-reliance.
