Finland’s President Alexander Stubb on Thursday underlined India’s expanding geopolitical influence. He described the country as one of the world’s most powerful and influential nations.
He said India has emerged as a crucial strategic partner for Europe at a time when the global environment faces uncertainty and rapid change.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, Stubb praised India’s diplomatic approach and economic progress. He noted that India remains the world’s largest democracy and continues to expand its role in global governance, international security policy, and trade.
Stubb observed that India’s economic growth and political weight have increased steadily in recent years. He emphasised that the country now ranks among the fastest-growing major economies in the world.
According to him, India’s stable development and strategic outlook have strengthened its importance for Europe and the broader international community.
The Finnish leader also commended India’s diplomatic philosophy. He stated that India conducts foreign policy with a pragmatic and realistic perspective.
Stubb said New Delhi has consistently balanced strategic caution with support for international cooperation and multilateral engagement.
Alexander Stubb said India demonstrates how a nation can protect its strategic autonomy. He added that India also remains committed to multilateral institutions and global partnerships.
He added that this balanced approach offers useful lessons for other countries navigating complex geopolitical realities.
The Finnish President also expressed honour at participating in the annual Raisina Dialogue alongside Prime Minister Modi. He praised the forum’s rapid rise over the past decade and described it as one of the world’s most significant platforms for geopolitical discussion.
According to Stubb, global policymakers and analysts closely follow debates held at the Raisina Dialogue. He noted that the event has gained global prominence as the international system undergoes a profound transformation.
Alexander emphasised that the global order is currently passing through a significant transition.
In this evolving context, he said India and its partners across the Global South will play a vital role in shaping future international dynamics.
Alexander Stubb called for reforms in the global multilateral system. He also strongly supported India’s bid for a permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council.
Stubb added that deeper cooperation between India and the European Union will remain essential as geopolitical realities continue to evolve.
