India airlifts 12 tonnes Of Relief Supplies To Colombo Under Operation Sagar Bandhu

India extended humanitarian aid to Sri Lanka as an Air Force aircraft delivered 12 tonnes of relief materials in Colombo. The assistance included tents, tarpaulins, blankets, hygiene kits, and ready-to-eat food items for communities affected by Cyclone Ditwah.

India sent urgent HADR supplies to Sri Lanka on Friday under Operation Sagar Bandhu. Cyclone Ditwah claimed several lives and left thousands affected, prompting India’s swift assistance.

The Indian High Commission said India supplied 4.5 tonnes of dry rations and 2 tonnes of fresh rations. It added that INS Vikrant and INS Udaygiri delivered other essential relief items to support affected families today.

Taking to the social media platform X, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar said, “@IAF_MCC C-130 J plane carrying approx 12 tons of humanitarian aid including tents, tarpaulins, blankets, hygiene kits, and ready-to-eat food items lands in Colombo.

PM Modi Expresses Condolences and Solidarity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences to Lankans who lost loved ones to Cyclone Ditwah and expressed solidarity. He announced that India sent relief materials and HADR support to Sri Lanka under Operation Sagar Bandhu today.

“My heartfelt condolences to the people of Sri Lanka who have lost their loved ones due to Cyclone Ditwah. I pray for the safety, comfort and swift recovery of all affected families. In solidarity with our closest maritime neighbour, India has urgently dispatched relief materials and vital HADR support under Operation Sagar Bandhu. We stand ready to provide more aid and assistance as the situation evolves. Guided by India’s Neighbourhood First policy and Vision MAHASAGAR, India continues to stand firmly with Sri Lanka in its hour of need,” PM Modi wrote in a post on X.
