Incessant moderate to heavy rain has caused a flood-like situation in parts of Madhya Pradesh, submerging roads and disrupting train services.
The continuous rain over the past 48 hours has forced citizens in rural areas to evacuate their homes to ensure their safety.
On the positive side, the rain has brought relief to Kharif crop farmers.
According to the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) regional office in Bhopal, eastern and western parts of the state experienced heavy rain in the last 24 hours. In the eastern part, Raisen district recorded the highest rainfall at 175.4 mm.
Monsoon may slow down temporarily, heavy rain is expected to return starting July 28, weather scientists in Bhopal said. Northern parts of the state should anticipate heavy rain on July 29 and 30.
IMD issues orange alert for Incessant rain in parts of Madhya Pradesh
The IMD has issued an orange alert for Vidisha, Raisen, Harda, Betul, Jabalpur, and Balaghat. Additionally, Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, and 18 other districts are on high alert for heavy downpours.
On Friday, rain was recorded in around 20 districts. In Panna, the Nirankar river swept away a Sports Utility Vehicle, but the driver managed to jump out just in time. In Vidisha, the Betwa river submerged temples and water flowed three feet over a bridge, isolating several villages.
The monsoon entered Madhya Pradesh on June 21.
