Dr. Naresh Kumar, a senior scientist at the India Meteorological Department (IMD), forecast that Delhi-NCR to experience light to moderate rainfall in the coming two days, follow by continue light showers. He explains that recent heavy monsoon activity in central regions was influence by the monsoon trough’s southern position extending from Jaisalmer.

Kumar noted a shift in weather dynamics, highlighting IMD’s issuance of a red alert for northeastern states such as Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and Assam. “The monsoon trough is now moving northward, focusing rainfall over the northeast, particularly in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya,” he added. This shift expects to intensify monsoon activity along the western coast, with predictions of heavy to very heavy rainfall ranging from 12 to 20 cm.
Regarding humidity levels, Kumar remarked that they would remain high due to atmospheric moisture. “Rainfall will alleviate humidity, whereas its absence will sustain elevated levels,” he elaborated.
He also anticipated isolated heavy rainfall across central India over the next several days.
