Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi featured on top among universities in India for sustainability. The premier institute jumped 255 places to reach 171 globally in the QS ranking announced on Tuesday.
A total of 78 universities have made it into the 2025 QS Sustainability Rankings, of which 9 of the top 10 institutions in the country improved their ranking and 21 new institutions secured their place in the prestigious QS Rankings.
Bengaluru-based Indian Institute of Science (IISC) has been ranked among the world’s top 50 for environmental education. At the same time, IIT Delhi and IIT Kanpur secured their place in the top 100 institutions for environmental impact.
Most Indian Institutes Improve Standing in Sustainability Rankings
Among 78 Indian institutions featured in QS Sustainability Rankings, 34 have improved on the previous year’s placements, and 8 universities have maintained their positions.
Meanwhile, 21 institutions made their debut in the 2025 QS rankings.
The Rankings Feature 1,740 Universities from 107 Countries
The 2025 QS Sustainability Rankings showcase over 1,740 universities from 107 nations or territories worldwide. The previous edition of rankings featured 1,397 institutions across 95 locations.
The inclusion of new institutions reflects significant growth and an increasing level of awareness among universities worldwide.
The University of Toronto secured first place in this year’s ranking, ahead of ETH Zurich, which achieved second place, while Lund University in Sweden and the University of California, Berkeley (UCB) tied for third.
