In the wake of the brutal Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level meeting with Air Chief Marshal AP Singh on Sunday at his official residence in New Delhi.
The meeting, which lasted for 45 minutes, underscores the government’s intensified focus on India’s security posture.
India has launched a wave of diplomatic, military, and economic responses after Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives carried out the deadly April 22 assault in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baisaran meadow.
The Prime Minister’s meeting with the IAF chief follows his earlier consultation with Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi on Saturday, marking the second top-level defence dialogue within 24 hours.
Security Preparedness In Focus
Government sources indicated that PM Modi’s meeting with Air Chief Marshal Singh was part of a broader strategic review, which included discussions on air defence, inter-service coordination, and operational readiness.
Both engagements reflect the Centre’s urgency in reviewing India’s preparedness for any potential retaliatory or preventive actions.
Meanwhile, tensions remain high along the Line of Control (LoC), with Pakistani ceasefire violations reported for the tenth straight day.
The Indian Army has responded with proportionate force, maintaining high alertness across forward posts in Jammu and Kashmir.
Comprehensive Military Consultations
Earlier in the week, PM Modi chaired a joint meeting with the Chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, along with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
During the closed-door session, the Prime Minister reportedly gave full operational freedom to the armed forces, permitting them to decide on the timing and nature of India’s response to the attack.
Multi-Pronged Retaliation
India’s response is not limited to military channels.
The government has initiated a series of punitive measures aimed at diplomatically and economically isolating Pakistan.
These include a complete ban on imports from Pakistan, suspension of postal and cargo exchanges, and the closure of the Attari-Wagah border.
India has barred Pakistan-flagged vessels from entering its ports.
It has also prohibited Indian ships from docking in Pakistan and shut its airspace to Pakistani commercial aircraft.
India has placed the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance and begun deporting Pakistani nationals from its soil.
PM Modi’s Stern Warning
Breaking his silence on the massacre, PM Modi issued a firm warning,
“The terrorists, their handlers, and their backers will be chased and hunted down to the ends of the earth.” His remarks underscore the Centre’s resolve to deliver a decisive response.
The series of meetings and sweeping countermeasures highlight a turning point in India’s security strategy.
The nation is now grappling with renewed threats from across the border.
