Hyderabad: Hydraulic Jacks Elevate A House With 16 People Inside, Causing It To Tilt Dangerously

On Saturday night, a three-story building being raised with hydraulic jacks tilted and leaned on a nearby residential unit, causing panic in the Chintal village of Quthbullapur.

When the G+2 construction was elevated above road level, there were 16 individuals inside, none of whom were aware of the owner’s plan. Fortunately, nobody was harmed.

After receiving a complaint from the owner of a nearby building, a Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) disaster relief team was dispatched to the scene to assist with the building’s evacuation. The building’s owner was later charged under IPC section 336 (act endangering the life or personal safety of others) for his actions.

Owner Appointed For ‘Raising’ Ancient Building

According to civic officials, the incident happened at 4.30 p.m.

“A case has been brought because the owner neglected to obtain authorization first. No one was hurt, and work is currently being done to rebuild the other building, according to M. Pavan, station house officer of the Jeedimetla police station.

On Sunday, cranes were used to demolish the building while the adjacent building was also evacuated.

Police say that when a new CC road was erected in front of the 32-year-old structure by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, the owner chose to lift it to prevent flooding during heavy rain. “They sent JJ Builder, a business, to push the structure a few inches and repair the foundation using hydraulic jacks. According to K Sathish Rao, station fire officer, enforcement, vigilance and disaster management (EVDM), the structure slanted rearward while being lifted.

When the team arrived in Chintal at around 4.40 p.m., Sathish Rao continued, they were astonished to see individuals still inside.

“We sent out six people to direct everyone inside to use the stairs to exit. People were warned through public service announcements, according to Sathish Rao, who also noted the building’s bad state.

The owner, according to officials, did not request approval for the construction.

Although the town planning department must be consulted for approval before beginning any renovations, none were, according to Quthbullapur deputy city planner K Sambaiah.

As a result, he continued, “we have filed a complaint against the landlord because the four rent-paying family were not told, threatening their lives.

“Though most people were asked to leave on Saturday, they were given time to remove important documents, etc. from their homes on Sunday before demolition,” the GHMC spokesman continued.

He claimed that the nearby building had also developed cracks, putting the lives of its people in jeopardy.
