Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday praised the security forces for eliminating 31 Maoists in a major operation at Karregutta Hills in Chhattisgarh. He called the operation a historic milestone in the country’s fight against Maoism.
Shah reaffirmed the government’s aim to make India Maoist-free by 31 March 2026. He said security forces had carried out the biggest anti-Naxal mission to date, successfully targeting top Maoist elements.
In a post on X, Shah said the encounter took place at Kurraguttalu Hill on the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border. The area was once a Maoist stronghold, home to major outfits like PLGA Battalion 1, DKSZC, TSC, and CRC. These groups used the site for training, weapon development, and strategy planning.
Shah stated that the Indian tricolour now flies over land that was once under Maoist control. “I salute our CRPF, STF, and DRG personnel for their bravery in tough weather and rugged terrain. The nation is proud of your courage,” he wrote. He added that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the fight to end Naxalism would continue with full force.
Officials said the month-long operation took place in the Karregutta Hills of Bijapur district. It led to the killing of 31 Maoists, including 17 women and 14 men. All bodies have been recovered, and troops have returned safely.
Eighteen security personnel were injured, with eight hurt by IED blasts. Authorities confirmed that all injured soldiers are in stable condition. Swift evacuations ensured timely medical care.
The mission involved around 10,000 personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Bastar Fighters, Special Task Force (STF), state police, CRPF, and its elite Cobra unit. Telangana Police also played a key support role.
Officials stressed that the operation shows the government’s strong resolve to end Maoist violence. They highlighted the importance of continued efforts to restore peace and security in affected regions.
