Union Home Minister Amit Shah unleashed a blistering attack on the Congress in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, arguing that the party’s steady electoral collapse is the direct consequence of its resistance to transformative decisions of the Modi government, especially the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
Shah’s forceful intervention came during a charged debate on election reforms and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Shah asserted that Congress’s ideological hostility to major national decisions has alienated voters across regions and generations. He listed each decision with pointed emphasis: the abrogation of Article 370, the Citizenship Amendment Act, the abolition of triple talaq, surgical strikes on terror camps, and the Ram Mandir issue.
“You opposed every reform that strengthened national unity or addressed historic grievances. You opposed the Ram Mandir. That alone explains why voters rejected you repeatedly,” he said, as NDA members applauded vigorously.
He warned that Congress’s fresh agitation against SIR and One Nation One Election (ONOE) would only accelerate its decline.
“If you continue opposing SIR, you will stay irrelevant in Bihar, and the people of West Bengal and Tamil Nadu will sweep you out next,” he further declared.
Shah reframed the narrative around electoral victories, asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mandate rests on tangible governance, not manipulation or procedural engineering. He recounted the government’s welfare achievements: free ration, LPG access, tap water connections, electricity to millions, and rapid infrastructure expansion.
“Modi ji delivered outcomes that reached 60 crore citizens. The people rewarded performance. Janata is Ishwar. And you still call this mandate ‘vote chori’?” he asked sharply, provoking loud interjections from the Opposition.
Shah Calls Debate a Turning Point
Calling the day’s debate a ‘defining moment’, Shah argued that the government had dismantled what he described as the Congress’s ‘one-sided falsehoods’, framing SIR as a tool of voter suppression. He said every allegation the Opposition circulated outside Parliament collapsed when confronted with legal facts and historical precedent inside the House.
“You constructed a narrative that SIR is some sinister plot. Today, this House has exposed your claims as politically motivated fiction,” he remarked.
The Home Minister positioned SIR as an administrative correction necessary to uphold electoral integrity and protect national security. He insisted that the process aims to remove inaccuracies, detect irregularities and ensure legitimate enfranchisement.
Shah made it clear the NDA would push ahead regardless of political noise.
The confrontation played out as the Winter Session continued to churn with turbulence, with the Opposition alleging that SIR targets the poor and minorities.
Shah further dismissed the accusation, arguing that Congress’s objections stem from its fear of losing the political benefits of outdated and inflated voter lists.
After HM Amit Shah concluded his forceful address, the House adjourned for the day amid continued tensions across the aisle.
