Union Home Minister Amit Shah will arrive in Thiruvananthapuram on January 11 to take part in celebrations marking the Bharatiya Janata Party’s historic victory in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.
Observers widely regard this achievement as a milestone for the BJP in Kerala, where the party has traditionally remained on the margins of power.
Significantly, the visit comes amid indications that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may also travel to the state capital in the near future. According to BJP sources, HM Amit Shah will visit the state ahead of the Prime Minister and will announce the proposed date of Modi’s programme during his stay.
Last month, the BJP created history by winning 50 of the 101 wards in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, enabling it to take charge of the civic body. Subsequently, the party secured the backing of an independent councillor, further consolidating its position.
With polling in one postponed ward scheduled for January 12, the timing of the Home Minister’s visit has gained additional political importance.
Party leaders have described the corporation victory as a turning point in the BJP’s steady expansion in Kerala, especially in urban local bodies. This success has boosted morale among party workers and strengthened organisational confidence across the state.
Meetings and Organisational Outreach
During the visit, HM Amit Shah is expected to meet BJP representatives who secured victories in the recently concluded local body elections. At a special gathering, he will address the elected members and commend their role in securing the party’s breakthrough result in the state capital.
Meanwhile, the BJP is planning to transform the visit into a major political and organisational event.
The BJP is organising a large conference in Thiruvananthapuram, bringing together elected representatives, senior leaders, and office-bearers from various districts.
Beyond celebration, the conference aims to help the party chart its future course in Kerala. State leaders see HM Amit Shah’s presence as a strong signal of support from the central leadership and a significant encouragement for the state unit.
Preparations are underway to accord the Home Minister a grand welcome and ensure the programme reflects the importance of the achievement.
