Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during his two-day visit to Chhattisgarh, reaffirmed the central government’s commitment to eradicate Left Wing Extremism (LWE) from India by March 31, 2026.
Addressing security personnel in Nava Raipur on Monday, Shah praised their courage and outlined a vision of a peaceful and integrated tribal heartland.
Tribute to security forces on the frontlines
Speaking to personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces, Chhattisgarh Police, CoBRA unit, Bastar Fighters, and the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Shah commended their bravery in one of India’s longest-running internal conflicts.
“Your courage has weakened the Maoist network in ways that even global security forces acknowledge,” Shah said.
The Home Minister expressed confidence that India’s fight against Naxalism is entering its final phase and will conclude by March 2026. He assured the forces and the nation that this long-standing threat to internal security is on the verge of being eliminated.
Acknowledging the human cost
Home Minister Shah noted that LWE violence has claimed or permanently altered nearly 40,000 lives over the past 35 years.
He described how extremist activities had denied tribal communities access to basic services like food, electricity, education, sanitation, and healthcare, and had obstructed industrial and regional development.
Transformation of tribal regions
Shah highlighted the visible progress in previously Naxal-affected villages, where schools, electricity, clean water, and health services have now replaced fear and isolation.
He described a hopeful future where a child holding a pencil instead of a gun would become a symbol of lasting change. “When that moment arrives,” Shah declared, “it will not just be a victory over violence, but a rebirth of opportunity.”

On his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Amit Shah shared, “Among all my engagements, the moments I cherish the most are those spent with our security personnel… When the story of India’s triumph over Naxalism is written, their bravery will be etched in golden letters.”
As part of the event, HM Shah released ‘Lior Oyna’, a book documenting Maoist atrocities against tribal communities and the efforts made to liberate Bastar from the grip of violence.

HM Shah said the book would expose the reality of extremism and challenge those who romanticise it under the pretext of human rights.
Top officials join the recognition ceremony
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Deputy CM Vijay Sharma, the Union Home Secretary, and senior officials from the Intelligence Bureau and Border Security Force also attended the event.
Together, they recognised and honoured the relentless service of security forces working in the dense forests and hostile terrains of central India.
