HM Amit Shah To Lead Syama Prasad Mookerjee Commemorative Programme In Kolkata

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a special commemorative programme in Kolkata on Monday to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Bharat Kesari Syama Prasad Mookerjee.

Organised by the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the Government of West Bengal, the event forms part of a two-year nationwide commemoration dedicated to honouring the life and legacy of the distinguished statesman, educationist, parliamentarian and nationalist leader whose contributions left a lasting impact on India’s political, educational, cultural and industrial development.

Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, Chief Secretary Manoj Agarwal, Culture Secretary Vivek Aggarwal and other dignitaries will attend the programme.

Amit Shah will begin the day by paying floral tributes at Syama Prasad Mookerjee’s residence in Bhawanipore, Kolkata, alongside other leaders.

He will then visit Eco Park to perform the Bhoomi Poojan and lay the foundation stone for a proposed 125-foot statue honouring Mookerjee’s contribution to nation-building and public service.

Shah will also inaugurate an exhibition at Milan Mela Prangan highlighting Mookerjee’s life and legacy through rare photographs, archival records and multimedia displays.

The programme will include a rendition of Vande Mataram, followed by Sur, Sanskriti evam Rashtra, a musical tribute by the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT), directed by Padma Shri Tarun Bhattacharya and performed by 57 artistes.

It will also include a short film on Syama Prasad Mookerjee’s life and the release of a special video on the foundation stone laying of his proposed 125-foot statue.

The Ministry of Culture said the two-year nationwide commemoration aims to preserve Mookerjee’s legacy and inspire future generations through his ideals of nationalism, public service and national unity.
