Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah will address a high-profile National Cooperative Conference in Panchkula, Haryana, on Wednesday, placing cooperatives at the centre of India’s agricultural and rural development strategy.
Organised by Krishak Bharati Cooperative Limited (KRIBHCO), the conference carries the theme ‘Prosperity through Cooperation, Role of Cooperatives in Sustainable Agriculture’ and aligns closely with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of cooperative-driven growth.
The summit will bring policymakers, cooperative leaders, and agricultural experts together to deliberate on critical policy and implementation issues shaping India’s farming future.
Discussions will focus on promoting sustainable agriculture, expanding the role of Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), ensuring income stability for small and marginal farmers, and strengthening cooperative-based agricultural models to address the growing challenges posed by climate change.
HM Amit Shah will attend the conference as the chief guest, underlining the Centre’s renewed emphasis on cooperatives as engines of rural prosperity.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini will join the event as a special guest, reflecting the state government’s active participation in advancing cooperative reforms.
During the event, Shah will e-inaugurate key infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening the rural economy.
These include a Milk Cooling Centre at the Salempur plant in Bhiwani and the HAFED Atta Mill at Jatusana in Rewari.
The initiatives aim to boost value addition, improve supply chains, and enhance income opportunities for farmers and cooperative members.
Farmers, Cooperation & Climate Action
The Union Minister will also distribute RuPay Platinum Debit Cards to beneficiaries of cooperative banks in Haryana, reinforcing financial inclusion within the cooperative ecosystem.
In another significant step, he will hand over registration certificates to the Presidents of newly established M-PACS set up by Haryana KRIBHCO, strengthening grassroots cooperative institutions.
Adding a digital dimension to the cooperative movement, Shah will inaugurate a dedicated portal highlighting activities and initiatives undertaken during the International Year of Cooperatives.
The platform aims to showcase best practices, innovation, and success stories from across the country, while promoting transparency and collaboration.
The conference will place strong emphasis on the exchange of advanced agricultural knowledge, access to affordable credit, adoption of modern technologies, and delivery of organic and climate-resilient farming practices through cooperative networks.
Organisers see cooperatives as critical vehicles for transferring innovation and resilience directly to farmers.
KRIBHCO has played a pivotal role in India’s cooperative journey, benefiting millions of farmers through fertiliser supply, agricultural advisory services, and farmer-focused programmes.
The Panchkula conference is expected to chart a renewed roadmap for the cooperative movement, especially as India observes the International Year of Cooperatives 2025.
By convening stakeholders at a national level, the summit signals a clear political message: cooperation, sustainability, and farmer empowerment will remain central to India’s agricultural and rural development agenda.
