HM Amit Shah Reviews Manipur Security; Urges Peace Efforts

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday advised Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh to intensify ongoing peace initiatives and further improve relations among various communities in the state.

Officials said that the Home Minister carried out a comprehensive assessment of the law and order situation in Manipur during a meeting with the Chief Minister at the Parliament House complex in New Delhi.

The Chief Minister had reached the capital on Tuesday evening with the specific purpose of meeting the Union Home Minister.

An official from the Chief Minister’s Office stated, “The Union Home Minister reviewed the current security scenario in Manipur with the Chief Minister. He also instructed him to expedite the ongoing peace initiatives and consolidate the improving relations among various communities.”

During the interaction, Amit Shah provided in-principle clearance for setting up a new Manipur Rifles unit, to be known as the Mahila India Reserve Battalion. He also asked the Chief Minister to present a formal proposal to take the plan forward.

Earlier Meeting

Earlier, on February 22, Yumnam Khemchand Singh, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Nemcha Kipgen and Losii Dikho, had met the Home Minister to deliberate on key matters, including the rehabilitation of internally displaced persons impacted by ethnic unrest.

Officials noted that, during that meeting, the Home Minister evaluated steps taken by the newly formed state government to bridge community divides and restore stability.

The Home Minister conducted the discussions at his residence in New Delhi.

Since the BJP-led coalition government assumed office in Manipur, the administration has introduced several outreach programmes focused on promoting reconciliation, trust, and long-term peace among communities.

During the earlier meeting, Amit Shah assured the state leadership of full cooperation from the Centre to bring back normalcy and reaffirmed commitment to the state’s development. He also highlighted the need to prioritise the rehabilitation of displaced individuals and pledged comprehensive assistance in addressing the issue.

This visit marks the third occasion that Yumnam Khemchand Singh has travelled to New Delhi since taking office on February 4.

During previous visits, he held separate discussions with Droupadi Murmu, Narendra Modi, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Nirmala Sitharaman, Jyotiraditya Scindia, and Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

These meetings mainly focused on rehabilitating those affected by violence and advancing efforts to restore peace and stability in Manipur.
