People observe Swami Shraddhanand’s martyrdom every year on December 23, commemorating his assassination in 1926.
Earlier in the day, Amit Shah joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi in paying tribute to former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna awardee Chaudhary Charan Singh on his birth anniversary.
In a post on X, Home Minister Amit Shah described Charan Singh as a towering leader of farmers. He said Charan Singh devoted his life to agricultural reform, rural empowerment, and public service.
He said Charan Singh boldly placed farmers and agriculture at the centre of governance. Shah also credited him with playing a decisive role in resisting authoritarianism during the Emergency.
Tribute, Legacy & Political Resolve Today
Prime Minister Modi echoed these sentiments, stating that a grateful nation can never forget Charan Singh’s immense contribution to nation-building.
Sharing a video message on X, PM Modi said Charan Singh dedicated his life to the welfare of the underprivileged and to strengthening agriculture, rural development, and social justice.

He emphasised that the former Prime Minister consistently amplified the voices of small and marginal farmers and ensured their concerns shaped national policy.
PM Modi noted that Charan Singh’s relentless advocacy for cultivators laid the foundation for a more inclusive rural economy.
He said the present government draws inspiration from Charan Singh’s vision. He added that the government has shaped several initiatives to strengthen small-scale farming and empower farmers around the principles the veteran leader championed.
Linking legacy with governance, Modi stressed that agriculture remains central to building a strong, self-reliant India.
The coordinated tributes by HM Shah and PM Modi framed a broader political message: nationalism anchored in sacrifice, reform driven by social equity, and governance guided by farmer-first priorities.
Together, the remembrances fused history with present-day resolve, reinforcing the ruling establishment’s narrative of continuity, commitment, and decisive leadership.
