RR Swain, DGP of Jammu and Kashmir applauded his men of police for receiving Shaurya Chakras from the central government. DGP also expressed his gratitude towards the President of India, Prime Minister, and the Defence Minister for awarding Shaurya Chakras to five personnel of the Union Territory’s police force for the first time.
Making the history, five personnel of Jammu and Kashmir police brought Shaurya Chakra home. Notably, none of the J&K policemen had ever received the Shaurya Chakra since territory’s inception in 1873 and after independence. Centre has awarded Shaurya Chakra to five policemen of Jammu and Kashmir for their courage and bravery while serving the nation.

Normally, members of the three armed forces get the Shaurya Chakra.
In a statement, DGP Swain praised his soldiers for receiving this honor and thanked President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh for acknowledging the bravery and sacrifices made by the J&K Police in the service of the country.
Selection grade Constable Varun Singh, Dy SP Mohan Lal, Sub-Inspector Amit Raina, Feroz Ahmed, Sub-Inspector Saifullah Qadri (posthumously), and Constable Varun Singh are the five J&K Police recipients of the Shaurya Chakra award.
The Ministry of Defence announced Shaurya Chakras to these J&K Police officers and personnel and a VDC member on Independence Day 2023 and Republic Day 2024.
