Himanta Biswa Sarma Takes Oath As Assam CM; PM Modi, Amit Shah Attend Ceremony

On Tuesday, Himanta Biswa Sarma began his second consecutive term as Assam Chief Minister after the BJP-led NDA retained power in the state Assembly elections.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at Khanapara in Guwahati, where Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office and secrecy to Sarma in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and several senior NDA leaders.

Five ministers also joined the new Council of Ministers. Those sworn in included Rameswar Teli, Atul Bora, Charan Boro and senior BJP leader Ajanta Neog.

The event witnessed the presence of Union Ministers, including Rajnath Singh and Nirmala Sitharaman, along with Chief Ministers from several NDA-ruled states and senior BJP functionaries.

Religious representatives from Assam’s Vaishnavite monasteries, including 15 Satradhikars, also attended the ceremony. Industrialists and personalities from different sectors were among the guests present at the venue.

Wearing traditional Assamese attire, Sarma took the oath before a large gathering of party supporters and leaders.

The NDA returned to power after securing a strong mandate in the recently concluded Assembly polls.

Sarma, who first became Chief Minister in 2021, has now led the BJP to its third consecutive government in Assam.

Before the swearing-in, Sarma was unanimously chosen as the leader of both the BJP Legislature Party and the NDA Legislature Party in the state. He later met the Governor to formally stake a claim to form the government.
