Heavy Security Measures In Place Ahead Of PM Modi’s Visit To Tamil Nadu On July 26–27

Authorities have intensified security preparations for PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Tamil Nadu on July 26–27, where he will attend a grand celebration at Gangaikondacholapuram in Ariyalur district to mark the 1,000th anniversary of Chola emperor Rajendra Chola I’s conquest of the Gangetic plains.

PM Modi to Visit Historic Chola Site in Ariyalur

Officials confirmed that PM Modi will arrive in Tiruchi from Thoothukudi on Saturday night and stay overnight.

On Sunday morning, he will fly by helicopter to Gangaikondacholapuram to participate in the commemorative event organised by the Union Ministry of Culture. This marks PM Modi’s first visit to Ariyalur district.

Before attending the main function, the Prime Minister will offer prayers at the Brihadisvara Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and architectural marvel of the Chola dynasty.

Massive Security Deployment Across Tiruchi and Ariyalur

Security agencies have launched a multi-layered operation to secure the Prime Minister’s visit. The Tiruchi City Police and Ariyalur District Police have outlined comprehensive security arrangements:

  • Over 1,000 police personnel will be stationed at Tiruchi airport and surrounding areas.
  • Nearly 2,000 police personnel from Ariyalur and neighbouring districts will manage crowd control and traffic around the event venue.

The Special Protection Group (SPG) conducted an Advanced Security Liaison (ASL) meeting at Tiruchi airport on Wednesday, which included participants from the city police, intelligence agencies, and airport officials.

Senior district and zonal police officers, along with the Ariyalur District Collector, will attend the second ASL meeting on Thursday at Gangaikondacholapuram.

Authorities have also constructed a helipad near the venue to facilitate the Prime Minister’s aerial arrival.

Security agencies will deploy anti-sabotage squads to patrol both locations and will maintain strict surveillance throughout the weekend.

The event coincides with the culmination of the ‘Aadi Thiruvadhirai’ festival, observed from July 23 to 27. Organisers have lined up a host of cultural programmes to honour the legacy of Rajendra Chola I:

  • The Sahitya Akademi will release a booklet on Thevaram hymns.
  • Kalakshetra artists will present a Bharatanatyam performance.
  • A Thevaram chanting session will take place.
  • Renowned composer Ilaiyaraaja and his troupe will perform a special musical concert.

The ASI will host exhibitions and guided tours to showcase the Chola era’s heritage and Rajendra Chola I’s achievements.

PM Modi to Return to Delhi After Event

Prime Minister Modi will fly back to Tiruchi and depart for New Delhi on July 27, concluding his culturally significant and politically important visit to Tamil Nadu.
