Health Ministry Issues Ebola Advisory As Africa Outbreak Raises Concerns

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday issued a public health advisory on Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), confirming that India has not recorded any Ebola cases as of June 2, 2026.

The Ministry, however, urged travellers arriving from affected regions to remain alert and report symptoms without delay.

The advisory follows a renewed Ebola outbreak in parts of Africa, prompting health authorities across the world to strengthen surveillance measures and precautionary protocols.

The Ministry advised individuals who have travelled from or transited through Ebola-affected countries within the past 21 days to closely monitor their health.

Authorities asked anyone experiencing fever, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, or unexplained bleeding to immediately isolate themselves and notify local health officials.

The Ministry reiterated that early detection remains critical in preventing transmission and saving lives. It also encouraged citizens to seek guidance through the government’s 24×7 Health Helpline at 1075.

The advisory stated, “If you have travelled from or transited through an Ebola-affected country in the last 21 days and develop symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, or unexplained bleeding, etc, isolate yourself and inform local health authorities.”

According to the World Health Organisation, Ebola is a severe and often fatal disease affecting humans.

The virus carries an average fatality rate of around 50 per cent, although previous outbreaks have recorded mortality rates ranging between 25 and 90 per cent.

Health experts emphasised that Ebola spreads through direct contact with infected blood, bodily fluids, organs, or secretions.

The Ministry highlighted the 21-day monitoring period because it represents the virus’s maximum known incubation period and remains a key component of global surveillance and contact-tracing efforts.
