After evading capture for 11 years, a murder suspect has been apprehended by a Haryana Police team from a distant island within the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The individual, accused of killing his wife in the state of Haryana back in 2007, was apprehended on Saturday, as confirmed by an official.
The suspect has been identified as AP Selvan, a 54-year-old cook by profession. In the initial incident, his wife was discovered hanging from the ceiling fan, leading to Selvan’s arrest from his rented residence in Ambala, Haryana. However, due to insufficient evidence, he was granted bail subsequently.
Nonetheless, suspicions regarding his involvement in the murder continued to linger during the investigation. In 2012, the Ambala Court issued a fresh arrest warrant against Selvan, backed by ample evidence presented by the investigative officers. Following this, he went into hiding and his whereabouts remained unknown for over a decade.
After an extensive 11-year search, Selvan’s location was finally traced to the remote village of Vijay Nagar in the Campbell Bay area of Nicobar district within the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Campbell Bay is renowned for being home to ‘Indira Point,’ which marks the southernmost tip of India.

Devesh Chandra Srivastava, the Director General of Police for Andaman and Nicobar Islands, spoke to PTI, stating, “He was arrested from Campbell Bay. We are in touch with our counterpart in Haryana, and further investigation is ongoing.” A Haryana police team arrived in Port Blair on August 23 before proceeding to Campbell Bay, where they collaborated with local law enforcement. In a well-coordinated operation, the Haryana and Andaman police successfully apprehended the suspect.
On August 25, Selvan was transported to Port Blair and placed in custody at the Chatham police station. The plan is to transport the accused to Delhi first and then to Haryana.
This instance marks a rare occurrence where an individual has been apprehended from such a distant location in the Andaman Islands for a murder charge by a mainland police team.
