Ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has cast doubt on the Congress party’s intentions following the recent joining of prominent wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia.
In Rohtak on Friday, Saini remarked, “Every person has their own opinion about which ideology they want to align with. Congress should clarify its intention behind this move.”
Saini criticized the Congress for opposing decisions made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asserting, “Congress needs to clarify their motives, especially since they engage in politics involving players, soldiers, and farmers.”

Earlier on Friday, wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat joined the Congress party in a ceremony attended by Congress General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal, party leader Pawan Khera, Haryana Congress Chief Udai Bhan, and AICC in-charge of Haryana, Deepak Babaria.
Following their induction, Congress appointed Punia as the Working Chairman of the All India Kisan Congress and announced Phogat as the party’s candidate for the Julana Assembly constituency. Both wrestlers had resigned from their positions with Northern Railways earlier in the day.
The move comes nearly a month before the Haryana Assembly elections, schedule for October 5, with the results to announce on October 8. Punia, who won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics, and Phogat, who became the first Indian woman wrestler to reach an Olympic final, are significant additions to the Congress roster as the party prepares for the polls.
