Guru Amar Das, also known as Guru Amardas, became the third Guru of Sikhism on March 26, 1552, at the age of 73. Before embracing Sikhism, he was inspired by a hymn composed by Guru Nanak after hearing his nephew’s wife, Bibi Amro, recite it.
Guru Amar Das’s teachings emphasised equality, humility and service, while his work contributed to strengthening social harmony and challenging discriminatory practices. His legacy continues to hold significance for Sikh communities and people who draw inspiration from his teachings on human dignity and social welfare.
