Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Gujarat on Saturday and conducted a public roadshow in Sanand before a significant industrial inauguration.
He landed at Ahmedabad airport at approximately 3:40 PM and proceeded directly to the Sanand GIDC zone, where large crowds had assembled along the designated route.
Residents lined the streets and greeted the Prime Minister as his motorcade advanced through the area.
Observers reported a substantial public turnout, signalling considerable local enthusiasm for the visit.
Authorities maintained visible security arrangements and implemented traffic controls to ensure orderly movement for both participants and spectators.
The outreach event preceded the formal inauguration of a major semiconductor manufacturing facility in Sanand.
Micron Semiconductor Technology India Private Limited has developed the plant.
The project marks one of the largest investments in India’s technology manufacturing sector.
Major Semiconductor Investment
Officials confirmed that the company has established the Assembly, Test, Marking and Packaging (ATMP) facility. It has invested Rs 22,516 crore in the project.
The project forms a critical component of India’s semiconductor value chain.
The facility will process advanced semiconductor wafers into finished memory and storage products, including DRAM modules, NAND flash devices and solid-state drives.
These components serve essential roles across data centres, consumer electronics and artificial intelligence applications.
Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw attended the inauguration ceremony alongside senior Micron executives.
The Prime Minister is expected to address the gathering and underscore the strategic relevance of the plant to India’s broader manufacturing and technology ambitions.
The project marked the first approval under the India Semiconductor Mission, with groundwork commencing in September 2023.
Once fully operational, the unit will feature nearly 5,00,000 square feet of cleanroom capacity.
It will rank among the largest facilities of its kind and will cater to global markets.
Officials indicated that the plant currently employs around 2,000 personnel. Direct employment is projected to rise to approximately 5,000 as operations scale up.
Company representatives emphasised inclusive recruitment practices and engagement with skilled professionals from diverse communities.
