Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on March 27, 2025, reaffirmed the Modi government’s commitment to farmers, stating that the Centre ensures procurement at Minimum Support Price (MSP) to support them.
He announced that the government has approved the procurement of 37.39 lakh tonnes of gram and lentils and 28.28 lakh tonnes of mustard for the 2025 rabi marketing season.
To boost self-reliance in pulses, the Centre sanctioned tur, urad, and lentil procurement under the Price Support Scheme (PSS). For 2024-25, it will purchase 100% of the state’s production. This initiative will continue till 2028-29.
The government approved tur procurement in Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh. It extended the procurement period in Karnataka by 30 days till May 1.
Currently, farmers sell tur at MSP in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Telangana.
NAFED and NCCF have procured 2.46 lakh metric tonnes of tur, benefitting 1,71,569 farmers.
The tur price in Uttar Pradesh remains above MSP. The Centre ensures 100% procurement through nodal agencies.
The government also approved the procurement of gram, mustard, and lentil under RMS 2025. It sanctioned 27.99 lakh metric tonnes of gram, 28.28 lakh metric tonnes of mustard, and 9.40 lakh metric tonnes of lentil. Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat will benefit the most.
Additionally, Tamil Nadu farmers will benefit from copra procurement.
The PM-ASHA scheme will run till 2025-26, ensuring MSP procurement of pulses and oilseeds.
The government uses NAFED and NCCF portals to simplify farmer registration.
Chouhan urged state governments to stop purchases below MSP. He assured farmers that the government remains dedicated to their welfare.
