The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will commence services across all its lines at 4 AM on Saturday, August 15, to facilitate the movement of special guests, invitees and the general public attending the 2026 Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort.
Services will run at 30-minute intervals on all lines until regular revenue services begin, according to the scheduled timetable for the day.
To ensure seamless travel for special guests and bona fide invitees, DMRC has provided 1,30,000 special pre-vended QR tickets to the Ministry of Defence.
Invitees carrying valid physical admit cards issued by the Ministry will also be provided special QR tickets at designated Metro stations.
Lal Quila, Jama Masjid and Delhi Gate are the nearest Metro stations to the Red Fort, the venue of the Independence Day celebrations.
The Ministry of Defence will reimburse DMRC for travel undertaken using these special QR tickets.
A day earlier, DMRC advised people across Delhi-NCR against flying kites near elevated Metro lines.
The corporation warned that kite strings could become entangled with high-voltage overhead equipment, potentially disrupting train services or creating serious safety risks.
DMRC reiterated that public cooperation would be essential to ensure the safety of passengers, staff and the public and maintain uninterrupted services during the Independence Day period.
A full dress rehearsal took place at the historic Red Fort on Thursday ahead of the 80th Independence Day celebrations.
The rehearsal took place amid heightened security deployment and tight traffic arrangements across the national capital.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will likely address the nation from the Red Fort ramparts on August 15, with large crowds anticipated and extensive movement restrictions likely across Delhi.
