Global Hindu Diaspora Calls For Urgent Indian Intervention Amid Bangladesh Violence

International Hindu organisations under the banner of the Global Hindu Diaspora have called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his advisers to step in over what they claim is intensifying violence against Hindus in Bangladesh.

Expressing what it described as ‘profound sorrow and urgency’, the group detailed incidents of killings, mob assaults, and alleged failures by authorities to safeguard minority communities.

Reportedly, the appeal followed the lynching and burning alive of Dipu Chandra Das, a young Bangladeshi Hindu, which the group described as part of a wider trend of targeted attacks. According to the letter, incidents of violence have risen sharply since August 2025, with conditions worsening significantly from mid-December.

Notably, the letter stated that mob violence linked to what it termed false blasphemy accusations had occurred previously, referencing the killing of Utsav Mondal last year.

The group argued that history has repeatedly abandoned Hindus in Bangladesh and cited the Liaquat–Nehru Pact of 1950, stating that the agreement promised safeguards for minorities but failed to deliver them.

The letter also referred to the period following the 1971 Liberation War, noting that large numbers of Hindu refugees fled to India, after which authorities sent many of them back to Bangladesh, exposing them to renewed threats.

Claims of Official Silence

Characterising the current crisis as a ‘massacre of Hindus’, the Global Hindu Diaspora alleged that local media coverage of human rights violations has ‘virtually disappeared’ since August 2024.

Emphasising a specific case, the letter highlighted Chinmoy Krishna Das, a senior ISKCON monk, stating that authorities have imprisoned him since November 25, 2024, on what the group described as fabricated charges and have repeatedly denied him bail.

Referring to official figures, the letter stated that perpetrators carried out more than 2,442 attacks on minorities—mostly Hindus—between August 2024 and June 2025, resulting in dozens of deaths. In addition, it reported that assailants killed 82 people between August and November 2024 alone, along with incidents of sexual violence, temple vandalism, and mob burnings.

Using data from the Bangladesh Hindu, Buddhist, Christian Unity Council, the group further reported that attackers killed 11 Hindus over the past 35 days in a series of lynchings, shootings, and mob assaults.

Urging decisive action, the Global Hindu Diaspora called on India to publicly condemn the violence, establish humanitarian corridors and refugee camps, and advocate for UN-monitored safe zones. Moreover, it appealed to New Delhi to raise the matter at the United Nations and exert diplomatic and economic pressure on extremist elements.

While acknowledging the Citizenship Amendment Act as a positive step, the letter argued that it remains insufficient under current circumstances, as many Bangladeshi Hindus are unable to reach India safely without protected routes.

Finally, the group announced plans for a nationwide silent protest across major US cities on Saturday, January 31, aimed at increasing awareness and signalling that the ongoing violence ‘cannot be ignored’.
