Ganesh Chaturthi marks Lord Ganesha’s birth, and people across India, particularly in Maharashtra, celebrate it with great enthusiasm. Devotees worship him as the deity of wisdom, prosperity, auspiciousness and new beginnings.
During the celebrations, devotees bring beautifully crafted Ganesha idols into their homes and public pandals. They offer prayers, flowers and sweets while organising rituals and cultural programmes.
The festivities traditionally conclude with Anant Chaturdashi. Devotees carry Ganesha idols in colourful processions before immersing them in water. The visarjan ritual symbolises Lord Ganesha’s return to his celestial abode.
This year, devotees are observing Ganesh Chaturthi on September 14, marking the beginning of the festive period dedicated to Lord Ganesha.
The celebrations will culminate on September 25 with Anant Chaturdashi, when devotees will bid farewell to the deity through immersion processions.
The festival continues to bring communities together through faith, devotion and cultural celebrations while reinforcing prayers for prosperity and the removal of obstacles.
