Union Home Minister Amit Shah will address the inaugural session of Hindi Diwas 2026 and the sixth All India Official Language Conference in Mumbai on Monday.
Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, the two-day programme will highlight Hindi’s connection with Maharashtra’s rich linguistic, cultural and literary traditions.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar, MPs, scholars, litterateurs, educationists and senior Central government officials will attend the event.
The Department of Official Language under the Ministry of Home Affairs has organised the All India Official Language Conference annually since 2021.
During the inaugural session, Shah will present the Rajbhasha Gaurav and Rajbhasha Kirti Awards for 2025–26 to institutions and individuals for outstanding contributions to the promotion and implementation of Hindi as the Official Language.
Several publications will be launched, including a special edition of Rajbhasha Bharati focusing on the National Song Vande Mataram, along with Bharatiya Gyan Tantra: Srot aur Swaroop, Shiv Anadi Hain, Anant Hain and Andheron Se Ujalon Tak, a collection of writings by prison inmates.
A special discussion on Vande Mataram will feature Joydeep Chattopadhyay, a fifth-generation descendant of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, who authored the National Song.
The conference will hold a session on Town Official Language Implementation Committees, known as TOLICs or NARAKAS, which play an important role in advancing the use of Hindi at the grassroots level.
A special exhibition will showcase stalls by various institutions, organisations, banks and Central Government Ministries, offering visitors an insight into initiatives supporting the Official Language.
