The 16th SATCAB Symposium 2026 was held on March 24 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, focusing on ‘Reconstructing news discourse with new models for broadcast and digital media’.

The event began at noon and witnessed participation from leading figures across India’s media industry.

CMD and Editor-in-Chief of Bharat Express News Network, Upendrra Rai, attended as the keynote speaker. He addressed the evolving media landscape and examined the growing dominance of digital platforms.

CMD Upendrra Rai observed that while time progresses naturally, current global developments directly influence everyday life, even household essentials. He noted that television has not remained untouched by these shifts.

Bharat Express News Network CMD emphasised that digital and social media have transformed audience behaviour, with viewers rapidly shifting towards mobile platforms due to convenience and accessibility.

CMD Upendrra Rai added that advertisers, who once preferred television, now prioritise digital media, reducing reliance on TV advertising.

Citing the Manipur incident involving two sisters, he highlighted how a single social media post triggered nationwide outrage and compelled parliamentary attention, demonstrating the profound impact of digital platforms.

Bharat Express News Network CMD noted that individuals now watch less television and increasingly rely on mobile devices.

According to him, mobile platforms offer greater convenience, significantly raising audience expectations.

CMD Upendrra Rai also questioned the growing difficulty of operating television channels. He remarked that earlier, viewers respected balanced moderation, but now loud and sensational debates dominate.

Addressing impartial journalism, he stated that neutrality often leads to neglect, while biased narratives gain acceptance.

CMD Upendrra Rai asserted that efforts to present balanced reporting frequently result in professional setbacks.
