French President Macron Pays Homage To 2008 Mumbai Terror Victims During Visit

Emmanuel Macron and Brigitte Macron paid tribute on Tuesday to the victims of the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks as his state visit to India began.

The gesture preceded scheduled bilateral discussions with Narendra Modi later the same day.

Both leaders will jointly launch the ‘India–France Year of Innovation 2026’, an initiative designed to deepen technological and industrial collaboration.

The visit aims to inject fresh momentum into the strategic partnership between the two nations.

On arrival in Mumbai, the French leader received a warm welcome from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Governor Acharya Devvrat.

Prime Minister Modi publicly welcomed his guest, expressing confidence that enhanced cooperation will foster global progress.

He said India anticipated elevating bilateral ties and exploring collaboration across sectors.

Mr Macron arrives at the invitation of the Indian government to participate in the India AI Impact Summit.

The summit provides a platform for international cooperation on responsible artificial intelligence and related technologies.

During his stay, he will also attend a bilateral summit in Mumbai. This visit marks his fourth trip to India and his inaugural official engagement in the city.

The Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that the leaders will review advancements under the India-France Strategic Partnership.

They will discuss ways to strengthen ties and extend cooperation into emerging and future-facing sectors. Ministers will also exchange views on pressing regional and global challenges.

Later in the day, at approximately 5:15 p.m., the two leaders will inaugurate the India-France Year of Innovation 2026.

They will address an audience of business executives, start-up founders, researchers and innovators from both countries.

The programme intends to spotlight joint ventures, research collaboration and commercial partnerships that can drive shared prosperity.
