UIDAI Extends Date for Aadhar update till December 14

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended its free Aadhaar update scheme until December 14. Previously, this service was set to end on September 14, after which users would have had to pay a fee for document uploads and profile changes on the myAadhaar portal.

UIDAI announced the extension on social media, stating, “UIDAI extends free online document upload facility till 14th December 2024.” This extension aims to benefit millions of Aadhaar holders.

The UIDAI encourages individuals to keep their Aadhaar documents updated, especially those who have not revised their Aadhaar cards in over a decade. The updated service allows users to review and amend their information as needed.

“This free service is available only on the #myAadhaar portal,” the agency added. The Aadhaar number, linked to individual biometrics, serves as a unique identifier for each Indian citizen. It also helps prevent identity fraud and leakage by eliminating fake or ghost identities.

Citizens are advised to update their Aadhaar details at least once every 10 years. They can do so using documents like ration cards, voter IDs, domicile certificates, passports, and passbooks. Users can submit these documents online through the MyAadhaar Portal or at any Aadhaar Enrolment Centre. For online updates, log in with the Aadhaar number and one-time password sent to the mobile number.

The UIDAI also noted that non-resident Indians (NRIs) can use the facility when in India, either online or in person at an Aadhaar Centre. Newborns can be enrolled by providing a birth certificate and the Aadhaar numbers of their parents. Their biometrics must be updated between the ages of 5 and 15.
