Four Killed, Including Schoolgirl, In Sahibganj Road Collision

A tragic road accident in Jharkhand’s Sahibganj district claimed the lives of four people, including a six-year-old schoolgirl, while leaving five others critically injured.

The collision occurred near Chhota Ranga Dand bridge on the Barhait–Barharwa main road when a passenger auto-rickshaw collided head-on with an oil tanker.

Eyewitnesses reported that the auto-rickshaw was travelling from Barhait to Barharwa, with all passengers planning to alight at Dahujor Chowk. The accident happened before the vehicle could reach its destination.

Police have identified the deceased as Samra Sah (30) from Bada Ranga village, Randani Soren (30) from Ghatiari village, Shanti Hembram (6), a schoolgirl from Dahujor, and Amal Kumar, the auto-rickshaw driver.

Police confirmed that three victims died on the spot, while the critically injured driver succumbed to his injuries during treatment at a nearby hospital.

Five others, including three children, sustained serious injuries, and residents rushed them to nearby health facilities. Hospital authorities reported that some of the injured remain in critical condition.

Following the accident, frustrated locals vandalised the community health centre in Ranga, accusing medical staff of negligence and delayed treatment.

Police from Barharwa and Ranga stations, led by Barharwa SDPO Nitin Khandelwal, arrived at the scene, controlled the situation, and initiated a formal investigation.

Authorities confirmed that the driver of the oil tanker fled the scene, leaving the vehicle behind.

The bodies of the deceased have been taken into police custody and sent for post-mortem examination. Efforts are ongoing to determine the precise cause of the collision.

This incident has raised serious concerns over road safety and the response of emergency services in the region.
