A tragic building collapse in Delhi’s Mustafabad claimed the lives of at least four people early Saturday morning, while around 12 individuals are feared trapped beneath the debris.
The four-storey structure gave way around 3 AM, shortly after intense overnight rain and thunderstorms battered the city.
Emergency services rushed to the scene immediately, launching a multi-agency rescue operation that remains ongoing.
Rescue Teams Work Against The Clock
Sandeep Lamba, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East District), confirmed that four of the 14 people rescued from the site had succumbed to their injuries.
He added, “The building was four floors high. We suspect that eight to ten people may still be trapped under the rubble.”

As the situation developed, Mohan Shaheedi, an official from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), provided an on-site update.
“We believe that 12 people, including 9 adults and 3 children, remain trapped. So far, we have rescued six individuals and sent them to the hospital,” he reported.
Search Operation Enters Critical Phase
Two NDRF teams, supported by Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police, and local volunteers, are carrying out the rescue effort.
Authorities are now focusing on locating potential survivors using technical search equipment and trained rescue dogs.
“We are identifying cavities within the debris where people may be trapped. If signs of life are detected, that area receives immediate attention,” Shaheedi explained.
“The situation is extremely delicate and requires precise coordination.”
The surrounding area has been completely sealed off to ensure the safety of residents and allow for uninterrupted rescue operations.
Weather Blamed For Structural Failure
The collapse occurred just hours after a sudden change in Delhi’s weather on Friday night.
Heavy rainfall and strong thunderstorms hit several parts of the capital, likely weakening older structures.
While officials suspect weather played a significant role in the collapse, the exact cause will be investigated once rescue operations are completed.
Community And Authorities Rally Together
Despite the harrowing circumstances, community members have joined hands with emergency responders, offering help and supplies at the site.
The coordination between civilians and officials continues to be crucial as teams race against time to save lives.
As the rescue operation enters its most crucial phase, the city waits anxiously for updates on those still trapped beneath the rubble.
