Forest Road Mishap Near Amarkantak Claims Lives Of Three Young Sisters

A devastating road mishap in the Khajurwar forest region near Amarkantak claimed the lives of three minor sisters in Madhya Pradesh’s Anuppur district, officials confirmed on Saturday. The incident has sent shockwaves through the nearby villages.

The accident occurred at around 1:30 PM on Friday on a kutcha road located nearly 35 kilometres away from the revered town of Amarkantak. The deceased children were identified as six-year-old Kavya Mahobe, three-year-old Anamika Mahobe and three-month-old Anshika Mahobe. They were the daughters of Dinesh Kumar Mahobe, a resident of Khajurwar village.

At the time of the incident, the children were travelling with their mother, Rukmani Bai Mahobe, on the engine section of a tractor. The vehicle was carrying cement bags and iron rods through the forest route. The tractor was being driven by the elder brother of Dinesh Kumar Mahobe.

Tractor Overturns While Avoiding Animal

According to Amarkantak police, the driver attempted to steer the tractor away from an animal that suddenly appeared on the road. In the process, he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn on the uneven forest track and inflict serious injuries on the passengers.

The injured children were immediately taken towards Damehri hospital for treatment. However, they succumbed to their injuries before reaching the facility, and doctors declared them dead on arrival. Their mother sustained injuries in the accident and is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital, where her condition is said to be stable.

Meanwhile, residents from nearby areas rushed to the site and helped rescue those trapped by lifting the overturned tractor.

Following the incident, Amarkantak police reached the spot and began formal proceedings.

Investigation officer Lal Bahadur Tiwari, along with Assistant Sub-Inspector PR Dhananjay, registered a case. They also launched a detailed inquiry into the matter. The authorities sent the bodies of the three sisters for post-mortem examinations. After the procedure, officials handed them over to the family for final rites.

Amarkantak is located in the Vindhya mountain range. It is regarded as the place of origin of the Narmada River and witnesses regular movement of pilgrims and villagers.

The forest roads in the surrounding areas are often used to transport construction materials on tractors. However, uneven surfaces, wildlife crossings and overloading continue to pose serious safety risks.
