Five Indian soldier during a tank warfare exercise in Ladakh lost their lives as the stream through which tank was passing flooded.
As per the information shared to a news agency from official sources, from Leh town of Ladakh region that an exercise of tank warfare was going on in the Daulat Beg Ode area near the line of actual control (LAC) on Friday.
A stream tank was crossing during this exercise flooded due to cloudburst in the higher reaches.
A source said, “A tank was caught in the flashflood wherein five soldiers got killed,”
However, official denied the information of any sabotage in the incident. The sources ruled out any sabotage in this accident. Those killed in this mishap include a Junior Commissioned Officer.
In an initial confirmation, defence official said, “”There were five soldiers in the tank at the time of the incident, including one Junior Commissioner Officer and four Jawans. One person has been located while the search for others is still going on.”
All five bodies have been recovered, defence officials said on Saturday.
The T-72 tank which the Army personnel were operating met with an accident during a river crossing exercise. The mishap took place yesterday due to a sudden increase in water levels, said defence officials.
