India’s first Vande Metro train has been renamed the ‘Namo Bharat Rapid Rail’, according to top sources in Indian Railways. The train, built indigenously, will officially launch on Monday.
Prime Minister Modi to Inaugurate Service
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail on Monday during his two-day visit to Gujarat. The launch coincides with his birthday, which is on September 17.
The Namo Bharat Rapid Rail will connect Bhuj in Gujarat’s Kutch district with Ahmedabad. The journey will cover 360 kilometers in under 6 hours. The train service will be flagged off virtually from Bhuj railway station at 4:15 p.m., with official operations starting on Modi’s birthday.
Train Features and Schedule
The train will depart Bhuj at 5:05 a.m. and arrive in Ahmedabad at 10:50 a.m. The return journey will be from 5:30 p.m. to 11:20 p.m.
The Western Railways announced on X that the train features 12 air-conditioned coaches. It includes automatic sliding doors, modular interiors, LED lighting, vacuum toilets, route map indicators, panoramic windows, CCTV, and phone charging facilities.
The Namo Bharat Rapid Rail boasts state-of-the-art amenities and advanced safety systems like KAVACH for collision prevention and an automatic smoke/fire detection mechanism. It has a seating capacity of 1,150 passengers and includes cushioned sofas for added comfort. Additionally, it features Divyangjan-friendly toilets, a flexible gangway, and meal service.
