In the Inner Manipur constituency, unfortunate incidents of intimidation and violence have marred the polling process. Instances of armed men firing near polling booths in Thamnapokpi led to chaos, prompting voters to flee. Similar incidents were reported in other areas, including Uripok and Iroishemba, where political party agents were asked to leave, and voters resorted to forceful entry into polling stations, damaging election materials. Videos and images circulated on social media depicted EVMs lying on the ground and polling stations in disarray. Allegations of voter coercion and pre-casting of votes surfaced, although the authenticity of such claims remains unverified.
In Outer Manipur, regions with Kuki-majority assembly segments witnessed a comparatively lower turnout. Areas like Saitu and Saikul reported turnouts as low as 8.58% and 13.22% respectively, while Henglep recorded the highest at 49%. Churachandpur and Chandel witnessed significant turnouts, reflecting the diverse demographic landscape of the constituency.
Moving to other states, Tamil Nadu saw a gradual increase in polling across its 39 Lok Sabha constituencies, with Dharmapuri leading at 44.08% turnout by 1 pm. Minor glitches in EVMs caused brief delays, and authorities are investigating incidents of voter deaths in Salem and Kallakurichi.
Assam recorded a turnout of 45.12% in its ongoing elections, with notable figures like Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and opposition-supported candidate Lurinjyoti Gogoi in the fray.
West Bengal reported a substantial turnout of 50.96% in its three Lok Sabha seats during the first phase of elections. All three seats are reserved, with significant participation observed from eligible voters.
In Uttar Pradesh, constituencies in the western region reported an average turnout of 36.96%, with sporadic reports of polling boycotts and allegations of booth capturing.
Similar trends were observed in Bihar, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, with varying voter turnouts across constituencies.
