In a tragic incident on Monday morning, a man lost his life when a dilapidated three-storey building collapsed in Ahmedabad City, Gujarat. The local police reported that five others sustained minor injuries but were successfully rescued from the scene.
The building, which had stood for nearly 60 years and was located in the Mithakhai Gam locality, collapsed at approximately 7:00 am, as stated by Navrangpura police inspector AA Desai. The rescue operation proved to be a challenging task as it took nearly two hours to extricate a man named Vinod Dakaniya (57) from under the rubble of the collapsed structure.
After being freed, Vinod Dakaniya was immediately rushed to a hospital, where medical professionals declared him dead, according to the official report. Fortunately, five other individuals, including a toddler, were successfully rescued from the wreckage.
Deputy Chief Fire Officer Jayesh Khadia stated that the incident occurred at approximately 7:00 am, prompting the immediate deployment of 35 fire personnel, along with emergency vehicles such as the tender and first respondent vehicle, for the rescue operation.
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by dilapidated structures and the importance of regular inspections and maintenance to ensure public safety. Authorities and concerned stakeholders need to remain vigilant in identifying and addressing potentially hazardous buildings to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
