In a peculiar incident in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar, a man’s attempt to impress his wife by posing as a secret agent took an unexpected turn when authentic secret agents apprehended him in the midst of his act.
According to a report from the Times of India, the incident unfolded as 31-year-old Gunjan Kantiya from Gandhinagar aimed to convince his wife of his secret agent persona. Executing his plan on a Tuesday, Kantiya accompanied his wife to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) office in Jagatpur, Gandhinagar.
While his wife waited in their parked car outside, Kantiya entered the office. However, the genuine NIA officers at the location promptly identified his falsified ID. Consequently, he was captured and subsequently handed over to the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) headquarters nearby.
Kantiya, a resident of Aalloa village in Gandhinagar’s Mansa taluka and originally from Amreli, operates a visa consultancy business in Mansa. To perpetuate his ruse, he had been utilizing a counterfeit ID card that falsely depicted him as a sub-inspector (deputation) employed by the NIA. Astonishingly, he had managed to employ this fraudulent ID for approximately four years.

Upon further investigation, it was revealed that Kantiya had fabricated multiple spurious IDs, each asserting his occupancy of significant roles in various government departments. One of the fabricated identities portrayed him as a junior town planner (IAS grade-2) within the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, complete with a forged joining date in February 2021. Another phony ID claimed his position as a deputy executive engineer in Gujarat’s Road and Building Department.
To create these elaborate counterfeit IDs, Kantiya adeptly downloaded logos and signatures of influential officers from both the NIA and other government agencies. His intention behind this elaborate scheme was to exploit these counterfeit personas to expedite his tasks and gain unauthorized access to circuit houses.
