Awadhesh Prasad, Samajwadi Party (SP) MP from Faizabad, broke down in tears during a press conference on Sunday after the brutal rape and murder of a 22-year-old Dalit woman in Ayodhya.
The woman’s body was found in a canal near her village. Her family claims she was raped, murdered, and had her eyes gouged out.
Prasad, visibly shaken, vowed to resign from his position if the perpetrators were not caught and punished. “I will raise this matter in the Lok Sabha before the Prime Minister. If justice is not delivered, I will resign. We are failing to save our daughters,” he said through tears.
A video of his emotional outburst quickly circulated on social media, showing him crying while colleagues consoled him.

The incident has sparked outrage in the village, with the victim’s family demanding swift action against those responsible.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath responded to the incident, vowing the culprits would face the harshest punishment. However, he criticized Prasad’s reaction, calling it a “drama.”
CM Yogi also suggested that the investigation would reveal the role of any SP leaders in the incident, adding that the Samajwadi Party remained a “safe haven” for criminals.
The victim’s body was discovered a day after her family reported her missing. Police have launched an investigation and detained one person in connection with the crime. Family members have shared disturbing details about the victim’s condition, including deep wounds, fractures, and signs of torture.
