In a shocking development from the Shakarpur police station area in East Delhi, a former sarpanch from Haryana surrendered ₹24 lakhs under coercion.
What makes this incident even more egregious is the alleged involvement of a Assistant Traffic Officer (ATO) from the Laxmi Nagar police station, along with three uniformed policemen and an accomplice.
Police Involvement: Accusations & Allegations
Despite the gravity of the accusations, no action has been taken by the police officers implicated in the crime. Reportedly, this lack of action is due to orders from higher authorities. This situation casts doubt on the transparency of the investigation.
The ordeal began when Pawan Kumar, a former sarpanch from Kheri Taloda village in Jind district, Haryana, sought financial assistance to send his son, Ratan, to study in Australia.
He turned to a friend, Shamsher Singh, who allegedly connected him with Jitendra Rana and Deepak Rana from Hanuman Colony, Sonipat.
These individuals demanded ₹23 lakhs initially, later escalating their demands to ₹4 lakhs for various expenses related to Ratan’s travel arrangements.
Events took a distressing turn on 13 May when Jitendra, Deepak, and their associate Bijendra forcibly collected ₹4 lakhs from Pawan in Safidon, Sonipat.
Extortionists allegedly worsened the situation by orchestrating a meeting in Delhi, where they coerced Pawan into handing over an additional ₹23 lakhs in the Shakarpur area.
The climax of the harrowing ordeal unfolded when police personnel arrived at the scene under the pretext of a weapons search.
They allegedly seized ₹24.5 lakhs from Pawan and his companions, including Shamsher Singh.
The victims were then taken to the Laxmi Nagar police station, where they claim to have been threatened and coerced into relinquishing their mobile phones and deleting incriminating evidence.
Despite the serious allegations and compelling evidence presented by the victims, authorities have not arrested or interrogated the accused police officers.
Sources suggest that strict orders from senior officials have prevented any action against the implicated officers, raising concerns about the fairness and impartiality of the investigation.
Silence from Authorities: District Police Commissioner Under Scrutiny
District Police Commissioner Apoorva Gupta has remained silent in response to efforts seeking clarity on these alarming developments, leaving the community and stakeholders seeking answers amidst a growing public outcry.
Ongoing Investigation: What Lies Ahead?
As the case continues to unfold, many are calling for a thorough and unbiased investigation to ensure justice for Pawan Kumar, Shamsher Singh, and all victims of this egregious extortion scandal in East Delhi.
