The recent eight thousand-page charge sheet filed by the Special Cell of Delhi Police in the NewsClick case has brought to light some startling revelations. Allegations within the document suggest that social activist Teesta Setalvad received foreign funds and played a role in the purported conspiracy. It’s claimed that these funds were directed towards ‘Sabrang India,’ a portal operated by Setalvad.
According to the charge sheet, Setalvad purportedly received around Rs 3 lakh for ‘Sabrang India,’ over Rs 1 crore for her employees, and Rs 39 lakh for personal family expenses. NewsClick, on the other hand, stands accused of misrepresenting India’s map by omitting Kashmir and depicting Aksai Chin as part of China.
Moreover, there are accusations against Prabir Purkayastha for manipulating Chinese maps and allegedly colluding with Neville Roy Singham and others to hinder efforts against the spread of COVID-19. Purkayastha is also implicated in running a smear campaign under the guise of protesting the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
The charge sheet further alleges that Purkayastha employed his staff to distribute money to rioters through Newsclick during the Delhi riots and purportedly supported the farmers’ protests while financing various terrorist organizations. Both Purkayastha and NewsClick are accused of orchestrating mass mobilization against CAA/NRC, disseminating false information, and inciting hatred through articles and videos. Witnesses’ statements implicate social workers like Teesta Setalvad and Urminlesh, suggesting a broader agenda aimed at sowing discord within the country.
