Engineer Rasheed And Jamaat-e-Islami

On Sunday, Engineer Rasheed’s Awami Itihad Party (AIP) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) announced a strategic alliance in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). This move marks a significant shift in the political landscape of the region.

The decision to form the alliance was made during a meeting attended by Engineer Rasheed and senior Jamaat leader Ghulam Qadir Wani. According to sources, AIP will support Jamaat candidates in Kulgam and Pulwama constituencies. In return, Jamaat will back AIP candidates in other parts of the Valley.

In constituencies where both parties have candidates, such as Devsar and Zainpora in south Kashmir and Langate in north Kashmir, a friendly contest will occur. This arrangement aims to strengthen their political presence without direct competition.

Sources indicated that both parties recognized the need to engage actively in the electoral process due to the evolving political climate. Their goal is to ensure that J&K has strong representatives who can address the people’s concerns and aspirations effectively.

Leaders from AIP and Jamaat stated that this alliance signifies a major step toward uniting for peace, justice, and political empowerment in J&K. They believe this collaboration echoes the spirit of the 1987 Muslim United Front (MUF), which opposed the National Conference and Congress. The 1987 elections were marred by rigging, which contributed to a surge in militancy.

This alliance between AIP and Jamaat is seen as a strategic move to consolidate their positions and enhance their impact in upcoming elections.
