The largest electorate in the world, 96.88 crore people, are eligible to vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI). In anticipation of the upcoming General Elections in India, the ECI has released the electoral rolls for every state and Union Territory (UT) nationwide following an intense, months-long Special Summary Revision 2024 (SSR 2024) process.
The newly released electoral rolls show a notable rise in the number of female voter registrations, signifying a step in the right direction towards gender parity. Approximately 1.41 crore of the 96.88 crore registered voters are female, more than 15% more than the newly enrolled male voters. From 940 in 2023 to 948 in 2024, the gender ratio has improved, demonstrating the increasing contribution of women to India’s democratic process.
Over 2 crore young voters, who are between the ages of 18 and 29, have been added to the electoral roll. To make their enrolment easier, special support has been given at the constituency level. Furthermore, an endeavor has been undertaken to provide assistance to individuals with disabilities (PwD). Approximately 88.35 lakh PwD voters are listed in the electoral roll database, guaranteeing accessibility and inclusivity on election day.
