The Enforcement Directorate (ED) plans to summon Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah over the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam. This follows a recent FIR filed by the Lokayukta, according to official sources on September 30.
Lokayukta FIR Launches Investigation
On September 27, Lokayukta police registered an FIR against Siddaramaiah, his wife BM Parvathi, brother-in-law Mallikarjuna Swamy, and Devaraju, who sold land to Swamy. The special court in Bengaluru ordered this investigation after examining the allegations. The Bengaluru High Court upheld the Governor’s sanction for the probe into irregularities in allotting 14 sites to Parvathi by MUDA.
ED Takes Action Amid Political Tensions
The ED will likely invoke the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to summon CM Siddaramaiah. The agency currently reviews the Lokayukta FIR. It can question suspects and seize property during its investigations.
Siddaramaiah claims that opposition parties target him out of fear. He labeled this as the first political case against him. He stated that he will not resign, insisting he has done nothing wrong and will fight the case in court.
