The Directorate of Enforcement (ED), through its Aizawl Sub-Zonal Office, conducted searches at four locations on 8 June 2026 under Section 17 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.
The operations covered areas along the Mizoram-Myanmar border, the Tripura-Bangladesh border, and locations in West Bengal.
The Enforcement Directorate launched the action as part of its money laundering investigation into NCB Case No 07/2025, which the Agartala Zonal Unit registered.
The investigation originates from a narcotics seizure carried out on 21 August 2025 in Tripura.
Authorities recovered 49.101 kilograms of methamphetamine and 40 grams of heroin during the operation.
Investigators searched locations in Tripura situated approximately 200 metres from the Bangladesh border and a location in Mizoram located around 500 metres from the Myanmar border.
The ED’s investigation has uncovered an organised cross-border drug trafficking network allegedly sourcing methamphetamine from Myanmar through the Champhai-Zokhawthar sector of Mizoram.
The narcotics were also reportedly transported to receivers operating in Tripura.
Officials believe the syndicate used a structured network to facilitate the movement of drugs and the transfer of illicit funds across multiple jurisdictions.
Investigators found evidence suggesting that the syndicate layered the proceeds generated from the illegal trade through several bank accounts and shell entities to conceal their origin
The Enforcement Directorate has identified proceeds of crime exceeding ₹142 crore so far.
The agency also continues to examine financial transactions, assets, and individuals linked to the alleged network as part of its ongoing investigation.
